Territories
Territories begins when the lure of professional wrestling draws a teenage girl away from her father. She stages a match in the fenced-in confines—the steel cage—of a local tennis court. From there, a journey reminiscent of Gulliver’s Travels unfolds as she voyages to different territories across North America to learn her craft, fall in love, and discover a unique combination of conflict and camaraderie within the eccentric subculture she’s chosen to build her life around.

These sweat-soaked, working-class stories of the desperate and the broke are about busted hearts, swollen muscles, and the kind of economic anxiety that threatens any dreamer worth a damn.
—Matthew Thomas Meade, Author of the short story collections Strip Mall and Rocketflower
Michael Chin’s Territories is an immensely readable, remarkably generous collection. I leapt from one story to the next with increasing velocity as I was immersed further in this world. Territories is brutal and funny and just so much fun.
—Mike McClelland, author of Gay Zoo Day
The authenticity of Chin’s journey through the greasy minor leagues of pro wrestling is only exceeded by its heart. Punchy, raw, powerful, and real—this book puts you in a chokehold that only gets better the more tightly you’re squeezed.
—Chris Koslowski, author of Kayfabe
