Before turning to full-time fiction writing, Joan Corwin taught literature and Victorian social history at Chicago-area colleges and universities. She has received several writing awards, among them, the Dana Portfolio Award, the Press 53 Open Award (Novella category), the Chris O’Malley Prize in Fiction and the Tom Howard/John H. Reid Fiction Prize. Her short story “Hindsight” was a Chicago Public Radio “Stories on Stage” winner. Her fiction has appeared in a number of literary journals such as StoryQuarterly, Sycamore Review and The Madison Review, as well as the anthologies Falling Backwards: Stories of Fathers and Daughters; Solace in So Many Words; (After)life: Poems and Stories of the Dead, and Signs of Life: Contemporary Jewelry Art & Literature. She lives in the Chicago area with her husband and their two dogs.
